Q-Golf records where every shot was played from while the phone sits in your pocket, and turns a round into a scorecard, shot maps and statistics.
Need help or found a problem? Write to kvelins@gmail.com. Say which iPhone you have and what happened, and if it is about a particular round, which course and hole.
Shots are not being found
- Carry the phone in a front trouser pocket for the whole round, and tell the app which way the screen faces under Settings, Shot tracking.
- Location has to be set to “Always” in iPhone Settings, Q-Golf, Location. Otherwise tracking stops when the screen locks.
- Motion & Fitness access has to be allowed for Q-Golf.
- Any shot the app missed or got wrong can be added, moved, edited or deleted afterwards from the hole map.
Using the Apple Watch
- Install Q-Golf on the watch from the Watch app on your iPhone if it did not appear by itself.
- Start the round on the iPhone. The watch picks it up and tracks swings from your wrist; the phone can stay in your bag or pocket.
- Allow motion, location and the workout permission on the watch the first time you use it, or swings stop being found once you lower your wrist.
My course is not there
Go to Courses, tap +, and choose Import from OpenStreetMap. If nobody has mapped the holes of your course on OpenStreetMap yet, you get an empty card and can place the tees and greens yourself on the satellite map. Everything imported can be edited.
Distances look off
Distances come from the phone’s GPS, which is usually good to a few metres in the open and worse under trees or right after the phone wakes up. The accuracy the phone is reporting is shown at the bottom of the round screen.
Battery
A round keeps GPS and the motion sensors running for several hours. Start with a well charged phone. Recording sensor data uses more battery and about 22 MB of storage per hour, and can be switched off in Settings.
